The University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus is located at the Western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula in the city of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada.
More than 400 hectares in size, the stunning campus is surrounded by forest on three sides and the Pacific Ocean on the fourth. It is just a 30 minute bus ride to Vancouver’s downtown core.
Some campus highlights are:
- The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts – one of the world’s great concert halls
- The Centre for Interactive Research in Sustainability (CIRS)
- The Arthur Erickson designed Museum of Anthropology – Canada’s largest teaching museum
- The Beaty Biodiversity Museum – home to Canada’s largest blue whale skeleton
- Nitobe Memorial Garden – considered one of the top five Japanese Gardens outside of Japan.
Many paths on campus lead down to beaches for walking or, for the hardy, swimming.
For longer forest walks, try the Pacific Spirit Regional Park, a 874 hectares (2,160 acres) park located adjacent to the campus in the University Endowment Lands. Pacific Spirit Park is a nature preserve of the British Columbia government, home to huge stands of magnificent Douglas firs and other trees native to this temperate rainforest climate. The park contains over 73 km of walking / hiking trails, 50 km of which are designated multi-use and available for cycling and horseback riding as well.
